OpenLayers or Leaflet: choosing for the workflow
Both are excellent tools. The right choice depends on interaction depth, formats, team experience, and product scope.
Choose from requirements
Leaflet is a strong fit for focused, lightweight maps. OpenLayers offers a broader native toolkit for projections, formats, complex interactions, editing, and GIS-heavy applications.
Consider the whole application
The mapping library is one layer of the architecture. Data services, frontend state, accessibility, mobile behaviour, testing, and long-term maintainability often matter more than a feature checklist.
Prototype the hardest interaction
Before committing, build a small proof around the most demanding workflow—large datasets, editing, printing, offline behaviour, or unusual projections—and compare the result.
